Isaac wrote The Bridge To Nowhere, a Beatles’ musical on the importance of biodiversity, as a collaboration with 2nd and 3rd grade children from Open Alternative School in Santa Barbara, and performed at the Marjorie Luke Theater.
His second play, The Last Play on Earth, a tragicomedy about the creative process and our educational system, he wrote in collaboration with the OAS 6th-8th grade kids, and also directed and produced. The Last Play On Earth was received with great acclaim. The kids also performed one of the scenes at the Granada Theater in Santa Barbara.
There was a play after The Last Play on Earth, by the name of The End of Rainbows, a political satire with a social media twist, written once again in collaboration with the OAS Middle School, and performed twice at the La Colina Auditorium. Isaac interviewed the children about their characters and wrote from there, staying as true to the kids’ stories as possible.
Isaac’s currently teaching a creative writing and improvisation workshop through the group he founded, Teatro Mayo. The class in an experiment to see how far he can direct children to write their own one-hour play.
If you’re interested in producing any of his plays, or if you would like him to be involved in writing a play in collaboration with a group of kids, please contact him.
